PATH TO SELF-RELIANCE

“I am 23 years and live at Ahmedabad. I have three younger sisters and one younger brother. As a family we have faced a lot of hardship because of my father’s ill health. I had to drop out of school since I had the responsibility of taking care of the house and my siblings. My mother donated her kidney for my father, but even then his life could not be saved. To make matters worse, my mother’s health also worsened because of which she had to undergo counselling and treatment for mental health at AWAG’s Counselling Centre.

During one such visit, we heard about the Stitching and Tailoring Training that was conducted at the organizations Production Centre. On enquiring about it I was informed about its details and I was enrolled in the training course. Once I started the classes I experienced a lot of courage and confidence within me. I went through the 2 month basic course and so also the advanced course after that. I learnt to sew designer dresses and salwar suits with different patterns. In addition, I have also participated in the awareness trainings conducted at AWAG. This helped me cope better with my emotions.

At present I earn upto 3000 to 4000/- a month by working from my home itself. I get work from the local trader wherein I have to fasten laces on salwars and dupattas. I am happy and thankful to have learnt sewing. The training program enabled me to learn a certain skill and put it into practice to obtain financial benefits. I am thankful to AWAG for paving my path towards Self-Reliance.”
